Young Virtuoso from the Manhattan School of Music — Yan Fang Makes His Liszt Hall Debut

Budapest — On June 3, IMK (Internationale Musik- und Kulturförderung) and the Manhattan School of Music presented an international collaborative concert at Liszt Hall of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, Hungary. The performance featured the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra of Szolnok under Spanish conductor Manuel Tévar, with Chinese pianist Yan Fang as soloist.

The concert formed part of IMK's university partnership initiative, connecting leading music institutions with professional orchestras to provide outstanding young musicians with opportunities to perform on the international stage.

The program opened with Vivaldi's Concerto for Violin and Cello, RV 544, followed by Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat major and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, “Scottish,” presenting audiences with a musical journey from the Baroque to the Romantic era.

At the heart of the evening was Yan Fang's performance of Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 1 in the very hall that bears the composer's name. He balanced dazzling virtuosity with lyrical sensitivity, delivering powerful energy in the brilliant passages while revealing rich tonal depth in the work's lyrical moments. Manuel Tévar and the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra of Szolnok provided finely balanced orchestral support, allowing the soloist and orchestra to interact organically throughout the performance.

Yan Fang is currently pursuing the Artist Diploma program at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of internationally renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman, while steadily expanding his international career.

His debut at Liszt Hall represented more than another international appearance; it illustrated the growing potential of IMK's university collaboration project, which connects leading music institutions with major international stages. IMK is expected to continue expanding its role as a platform supporting young musicians through partnerships with distinguished music schools worldwide, while Yan Fang continues to establish himself as one of the next generation's most promising pianists.

지난 6월 3일 헝가리 부다페스트 프란츠 리스트 음악원(The Franz Liszt Academy of Music) 리스트홀(Liszt Hall)에서 IMK(Internationale Musik- und Kulturförderung)와 맨해튼 음악대학(Manhattan School of Music)이 함께한 국제 협력 프로젝트가 개최됐다. 이번 공연에는 헝가리 솔노크 심포니 오케스트라(Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra of Szolnok)와 스페인 출신 지휘자 마누엘 테바르(Manuel Tévar), 그리고 중국 출신 피아니스트 얀 팡(Yan Fang)이 함께 무대에 올랐다.

이번 공연은 세계적인 음악교육기관과 전문 오케스트라를 연결하여 젊은 연주자들에게 국제 무대를 제공하는 IMK의 대학협력 프로젝트로 마련됐다. 교육과 실연을 연결하는 프로젝트의 취지를 담아, 차세대 음악가가 세계적인 공연장에서 관객과 만나는 뜻깊은 무대가 펼쳐졌다.

프로그램은 비발디의 바이올린과 첼로를 위한 이중협주곡 RV544를 시작으로 리스트의 피아노 협주곡 제1번 E♭장조, 멘델스존의 교향곡 제3번 ‘스코틀랜드’가 연주됐다. 바로크부터 낭만주의까지 이어지는 음악사의 흐름을 담은 구성은 다양한 시대의 음악적 색채를 자연스럽게 연결했다.

이날 공연의 중심에는 Yan Fang이 있었다. 그는 리스트의 이름을 딴 프란츠 리스트 음악원 리스트홀에서 리스트 피아노 협주곡 제1번을 협연하며 작품의 화려한 기교와 섬세한 서정성을 균형 있게 풀어냈다. 빠른 패시지에서는 힘 있는 에너지를, 서정적인 선율에서는 깊이 있는 음색을 들려주며 관객들의 집중을 이끌었다. 특히 지휘자 마누엘 테바르와 헝가리 솔노크 심포니 오케스트라는 독주와 오케스트라가 유기적으로 호흡할 수 있도록 안정적인 균형을 만들어내며 작품의 극적인 전개를 효과적으로 살려냈다.

Yan Fang은 현재 맨해튼 음악대학 Artist Diploma 과정에서 세계적인 피아니스트 예핌 브론프만(Yefim Bronfman)을 사사하며 국제 무대에서 활동 영역을 넓혀가고 있는 젊은 피아니스트다. 이번 리스트홀 데뷔는 Yan Fang에게 또 하나의 국제 무대 경험을 넘어, 세계적인 음악교육기관과 공연장이 함께하는 IMK 대학협력 프로젝트의 가능성을 보여준 무대였다. 앞으로도 IMK는 세계 유수의 음악대학과의 협력을 통해 젊은 연주자들의 국제 무대 진출을 지원하는 플랫폼으로 역할을 넓혀갈 것으로 기대되며, Yan Fang 역시 세계 무대에서 자신만의 음악세계를 더욱 확장해 나갈 차세대 피아니스트로 기대를 모으고 있다.
